Her lifelong love of the arts inspired Jane Shatz to bring the Arts Workshop to Morris County. A dancer, teacher, clothing designer, inventor, business owner, and Black Belt in Judo and Jujitsu, Ms. Shatz knows how important a knowledge of the arts is for a well-rounded education. Therefore, in 1998 she helped launch the Music and Art Appreciation Program for students in kindergarten through fifth grade in the Chester schools. Through this PTO-sponsored program, which Ms. Shatz continues to chair, parent volunteers introduce children to music and fine art genres and concepts during one-hour sessions. Students usually have three to four such sessions during a school year.
“For being a role model who serves as an inspiration to others and makes a positive difference in our community, Ms. Shatz was awarded the “Best of America” Hometown hero award in 2005. She has a bachelor of fine arts degree from the Dance Division of the Julliard School of Music, Lincoln Center, New York, NY.
Jane Shatz is one of a hundred alumni featured in the Juilliard Centennial magazine. The magazine was created to commemorate the school’s 100 year anniversary.
